PRECARE

Prepare for your appointment for best results!

A few conditions are contra-indicated for micro-pigmentation & microchanneling, while most simply require special preparation or consideration. For best results, please be candid when completing your Confidential Health Survey at the beginning of your first appointment.

You should discuss your intention to receive micro-pigmentation/microchanneling with your doctor prior to booking a service if you are: pregnant or nursing, have epilepsy, take accutane, just had botox or fillers, are diabetic, have a heart condition, have received an organ transplant or have an auto-immune disease. Only a medical professional knowledgable with your particular situation can determine if it is safe for you to receive micro-pigmentation/micro-needling.

It is not recommended to receive micro-pigmentation/microchanneling if you have a tendency towards keloids or scarring, or acute hyper-pigmentation, either naturally or as a side effect of some medications (i.e. Doxycycline).

To properly prepare for your micro-pigmentation/microchanneling procedure, please limit use of blood-thinning agents (caffeine, ibuprofen, alcohol, etc.) for 48 hours prior to procedure, unless they are prescription. Excessive bleeding will adversely affect your treatment results.

It is recommended that you take Arnica and/or Bromelain for several days both prior to and after your procedure. These supplements have been shown to help reduce swelling & speed healing without acting as blood thinners.

Finally, please be aware, women are more pain-sensitive during menses, so plan accordingly.

Permanent Cosmetics & Microchanneling (CIT) Preparation

Please avoid:

  • retinol & other chemical skin treatments or procedures for at least a week prior to appointment

  • tanning and extreme sun exposure for at least 2 weeks prior

  • botox & other injections for at least 8 weeks prior

If having eyebrows done please stop waxing, tweezing or threading your eyebrows immediately. The most naturally attractive eyebrow tattoo designs work with your natural hair growth pattern. Once your chosen design is complete, we will remove any hairs that do not support the design.

If having eyeliner done and you have lash extensions, you must have them removed prior to receiving your treatment.

If having lips done and you have ever had a cold sore, you must take Valtrex or another anti-viral for at least 3 days before & 3 days after your procedure.

Scar Revision, SMP, Camouflage, Areola Restoration and PMU Correction/Removal Preparation:

Please avoid chemical skin/hair treatments and/or injections at treatment site & tanning or extreme sun exposure for at least 2 weeks prior to first procedure appointment.

There may be other treatment-specific pre-care instructions for your Para-Medical micro-pigmentation/microchanneing procedure; these will be provided at your complementary consult.

AFTERCARE

Permanent Cosmetics, SMP, Camouflage, Areola Restoration

It is impossible to overstate the importance of Aftercare. Proper Aftercare of any micro-pigmentation, removal or microchanneling treatment has a decisive influence on the final results. Your body and its natural healing process are what is at work at this stage.

Aftercare instructions serve ONE GOAL - to help your skin to heal quickly in the cleanest possible environment, avoiding any complications. This is the best way to ensure color retention & the design integrity of your micro-pigmentation, and the efficacy of your removal or microchanneling procedure.

Things to avoid during the healing process of any micro-pigmentation, removal or microchanneling procedure are: pools or other large bodies of water, saunas or other hot places, strenuous exercise or other excessive sweat-producing activities, direct sunlight or tanning, aggressive cleansing or moisturizing products, and above all do not pick, scratch or rub the treatment area. Keep it clean, don't let it get too dry or too wet, and leave it alone.

You will be provided with detailed written instructions, customized for your skin type & specific to your procedure, at its conclusion, as they do vary. Your instructions will include immediate aftercare, tips for how to promote proper healing, as well as how to protect your work long-term. The first few weeks following your procedure is a very crucial stage - please follow all Aftercare directions to ensure the integrity of your tattoo at the outset: this will help it to last longer.

Be prepared for the color intensity of your work to be significantly sharper, brighter or darker immediately after the procedure.  As your skin heals, the color will "settle" into the desired color.

Keep in mind, tattoo ink color is constant, while your own skin color will vary depending on exposure to cold, heat, sun and circulatory changes.  For example, if you expose a camouflaged scar to sun,  your surrounding skin will be darker in appearance than the procedure area.

The pigments used in permanent cosmetics and some scalp and skin procedures are designed to fade. This allows us to adjust the color of your enhancement as you age, so your work remains natural looking. Color/Design Boost 'top-ups' will be needed. How often varies. The typical areola restoration may only need a slight refresh after 15 years. The eyebrows on a professional beach volleyball player are going to need a full Color/Design infusion after 18 months. And everything and everyone else will fall somewhere in between. The greatest cause of premature fading is sun exposure, so always protect your work.

Adequate sun protection is especially important for Permanent Cosmetics & Camouflage.  Retinol, chemical peels, laser treatments, microdermabrasion, and other aggressive skin treatments will also prematurely degrade the color and clarity of your work. Always inform your esthetician you have micro-pigmentation so they can avoid the treatment area.

Because pigments used in micro-pigmentation procedures may contain inert oxides, you should inform your MRI technician of your micro-pigmentation. This will allow them to take any precautions they deem necessary for your comfort.

In most cases, the micro-pigmentation procedure and recovery are uneventful. A bit of redness and swelling at the treatment site is usually not cause for concern, as it implies healing. The special Aftercare products we provide should help to alleviate discomfort by keeping the treatment area clean and moisturized, thus aiding in a quick and desirable healing process.

Our Aftercare products are chosen specifically for their cleansing and healing properties. DERMAgraphics uses products that are all natural & petroleum free, formulated with botanical antiseptic & healing compounds, and are rich in vitamins & minerals. In every area of our practice, DERMAgraphics only uses products with published Manufacturers Safety Data Sheets (MSDS).

PMU Correction/Removal:

The first few weeks following your procedure is a very crucial stage - please follow all Aftercare directions.

The various techniques used in PMU corrective work usually have different goals, affecting Aftercare protocol. A color correction session will follow the Aftercare instructions of a typical permanent cosmetic procedure, while the Aftercare for a salinated tattoo removal session is completely different.

With salinated tattoo removal, the goal is to cause the old pigment to lift from the skin. Therefore, a clean and dry healing is required. The area should be allowed to scab, and the scab allowed to heal naturally. The unwanted pigment should continue to fade for weeks after the scab has healed and fallen off naturally. The area may be pink for a while as the body continues its cleanse & repair of treatment area.

Scar Revision, Scalp Stimulation, Microchanneling (CIT):

Microchanneling is not considered invasive, so your recovery time will be short and easy. Still, the Aftercare general guidelines must be followed: Keep it clean, don't let it get too dry or too wet, and leave it alone.

In most cases, the microchanneling procedure and recovery are uneventful. A bit of redness and itching at the treatment site is usually not cause for concern, as it implies healing. The special Aftercare products we provide should help to alleviate discomfort by keeping the treatment area clean and moisturized, thus aiding in a quick and desirable healing process.

If at any point you are experiencing excessive redness and swelling or discharge, call us for a quick check-up, or visit your doctor. You may be experiencing an allergic reaction or have developed an infection. While both of these situations are rare, they are also easily resolved, so do not hesitate to seek treatment.
